VSB-TUO Launches a Doctoral Programme in Sustainable Construction

The programme emphasizes modern construction methods, digitalisation, innovative materials, and the assessment of buildings throughout their entire life cycle. It links technical expertise with broader aspects of the built environment, from advanced material solutions, digitalisation, energy efficiency, and reducing environmental impacts to the quality of the built environment and user friendliness. It is based on the principles of the New European Bauhaus initiative, which highlights sustainability, accessibility, and the aesthetic value of buildings.

“Graduates of our programme will acquire the skills needed to carry out advanced experimental and theoretical research in construction engineering. They will learn to evaluate data, design solutions with real societal benefits, analyse the environmental and economic impacts of construction technologies, and collaborate effectively with experts across construction and related disciplines,” says Petr Konečný, guarantor of the study programme.

Graduates will find employment primarily in research and innovation centres of construction companies, design offices, or research and development departments. Thanks to the programme’s international dimension and its availability in English, it is also suitable for international students and applicants from partner universities within the U!REKA alliance.

“Detailed information about the study programme will be published at the beginning of this year, when the admissions process will also be launched,” Petr Konečný concludes. Prospective students can learn more about the programme during VSB-TUO Open Days, taking place on 23 and 24 January.
