Summary
Steel arch supports are key reinforcing elements which are used in long mining workings. For designing the steel arch support, an empirical-analytical method has proved successful in practice. This method is applied to the support under static load andis the basis for determination of the load. In case of earth shocks, the support in the affected mining working is loaded only dynamically by shocks. Consequently, much energy is released from the neighbouring solid rock mass. The steel supports become,in turn, considerably deformed, changing consequently the original shape of the structure. No much attention has been paid so far to analyses and reliability studies for roadway supports. The objective of the grant project is to develop such method whichwou ld enable the reliability of the steel supports of long mining workings to be evaluated for impact loads. Then it will be possible to assess and compare the supports for different deformation energy which the support can absorb during the impact load.
