Summary
Study of corrosion processes on existing weathering steel structures is important for formulation of apposite predictive models of corrosion weakening during the design service life of the structure. The project will study the protective patina layer development depending on the structural and dispositional arrangement of the structure and the local characteristics of surrounding environment. The differences in patina development on typical surfaces of steel structures will be investigated. The influence of different local factors affecting corrosion weakening of the structure will be analyzed. These local factors, e.g. neglected maintenance of the structure, can not be taken into account in standard atmospheric corrosion tests. The corrosion processes will be studied on existing weathering steel structures, especially on bridge structures, television transmitters and power line masts.
