Summary
Establishing of the active science, research and innovation cooperation on the field of the design of steel structures is aim of this project. The topic – Theoretical analysis and experimental research of lattice girders joints – is focused on actual worldwide research problems and also engineering practice. Few years ago, the new European design code came with a lot of innovations of design procedures. The Eurocodes are very comprehensive and complex; nevertheless it is difficult to find the correct answers on the design process of whole structures and/or details often. Frequently the problems can appear when designing joints. Therefore the topic of design of lattice girders joints, which consist of circular or rectangular hollow sections and H-sections, is selected for the research. This problem is partially solved in current European code (ČSN) EN 1993-1-8. Despite of number of instructional pages it is difficult (and some times unreliable) to solve problems of connection universally. The procedures and design formulas for special and not standard joints are missing in the codes. It should be noted that exactly those types of structures are frequently used on modern structures because of their variability, esthetic value, structural advantages and last but not least economy. Significant research groups around the world explore similar topics over a long period. Worldwide interest is one of indicators that emphasize the importance of selected topic. Basic research is needed for better understanding the problem of behavior of lattice girders joints. During the international Czech and Slovak cooperation, the experimental analysis will be performed. The real behavior of the lattice girder joints will be studied. Number of full-scale experiments focused on both, the behavior of whole structure, as well as the behavior of selected details. Experimental research will be supported by the parametrical numerical analysis using a modern computer programs based on final element analysis. Proposed research activities will create essential theoretical background for subsequent practical research activities on this topic. The cooperation established during research between two scientific groups and the individual scientific progress of every researcher is the main added value of the proposed project.
